OFFICE PROJECT SURVEYOR / SURVEYING DEPARTMENT

OFFICE PROJECT SURVEYOR / SURVEYING DEPARTMENT

VIKA Capitol is seeking an experienced Office Project Surveyor to join our staff in our office.

A successful candidate is required to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of boundary, topographic, record plats, legal descriptions and construction stakeout computations.  Candidate must have extensive experience with Civil 3D and Carlson software.  Candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times, the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, and the willingness to learn and take on new tasks.  5 to 7 years of office experience is recommended for this position.

SURVEY PARTY CHIEF/ SURVEYING DEPARTMENT

SURVEY PARTY CHIEF/SURVEYING DEPARTMENT

VIKA Capitol is seeking a Survey Party Chief with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in land surveying.  This position reports to Survey Field Coordinator and Director of Land Surveying.  The candidate shall have experience in all aspects of survey projects, including field data collection reconnaissance for horizontal and vertical control or property corner evidence, field stakeout of proposed routes or future construction, and building control a must.  Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather, along with extended work schedules and likely overtime opportunities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:  1) operate instruments and data collections systems (total stations, levels and other measuring devices) to acquire data for various types of surveys; 2) performs processing of field measurements and related data, equipment maintenance and maintains supplies for crew vehicles; 3) care and working knowledge of total stations, GPS levels and robotic total station.  Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record. Take home truck provided with the position and a clean driving record.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

VIKA Capitol, LLC, a land development consulting and engineering firm that provides land surveying, civil engineering, planning, landscape architecture/arboriculture, and land development consulting services, is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to support the Engineering and Survey Department.

This position provides administrative and secretarial support for the company.   The qualified candidate will have 2 – 5 years of administrative support experience, preferably in the construction industry.  Must have knowledge of secretarial, office administrative procedures, and knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment. Must have an advanced knowledge of MS Office suite, especially Word and Excel.  The successful candidate will have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Some analytical ability is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

About the Job

  • The functions include, but are not limited to:
    • Producing information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting, text, data, and graphics.
    • Typing requests for all departments.
    • Directs visitors by maintaining employee and department phone & map directories; giving instructions.
    • Welcoming guests and clients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or directing phones and inquiries arising at the front desk.
    • Maintaining safe and clean reception area as well as conference rooms and common areas by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
    • Processing of incoming and outgoing mail, shipments, deliveries, etc.
    • Inventory and ordering of office and equipment supplies.
    • Maintaining professional appearance of office.
    • Assisting other employees with general office issues and questions.
    • Maintaining client confidence and protecting operations by keeping information confidential.
    • Coordinating with the team on special tasks and contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
    • Additional tasks as needed.
  • Qualifications:
    • High school diploma/GED required.
    • 2+ years’ office experience required.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
    • Demonstrated ability to generate spreadsheets, tables, lists, and professional presentations from basic data and general descriptions of the desired final product format.
    • Must have experience with administrative writing and formatting of letters, reports, etc.
    • Must have strong time management skills and be able to prioritize multiple diverse tasks.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Internet Explorer, electronic mail systems and electronic and hard copy file management systems required.
    • Must be highly organized and demonstrate high attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills including professional telephone skills.
    • Must have good interpersonal skills and demonstrate a high level of organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and a high level of customer service to all employees and for visitors and callers is required.
    • Capability to manage and complete assigned tasks independently is required.
    • Proven ability to take initiative and apply practical knowledge to interpret and resolve issues.

Responsibilities include: 1) ability to work on specific tasks; 2) ability to design and prepare engineering documents for specific design components of a project, sediment erosion control, storm drain design and computations, water and sewer design, grade establishment plans, and maintenance of traffic plans; and, 3) ability to coordinate efforts with client, agencies, and VIKA’s Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Surveying, and Planning Staff, as well as other consultants.

We are seeking an entry to mid-level planner / landscape architect to join the staff in our Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will have 0 – 5 years of experience in the production of a wide range of documents, including: zoning / entitlement packages; site plan packages; landscape / hardscape design; and, construction documents. Experience with local jurisdiction is a plus, as is professional registration, though neither is required.

It is expected that the candidate will be fluent in computer programs standard within the industry (AutoCad, photoshop, sketchup at a minimum), and have solid grading and hand graphic skills.
Lastly, the successful candidate will be comfortable “wearing many hats”, working efficiently at many scales and working under tight deadlines.
